With the Casserole pilot relaunching today in Redhill, we thought it high time to officially introduce you to the hard-working and food-loving team behind the service. So without further ado, here’s the crew!
Murtz is the captain of our ship – project managing wizz-kid and the original brainchild of Casserole. Before Casserole, Murtz worked for RNIB, designing everything from door handles to talking bus stops, before studying for his MA in Integrated Product Design, which led him to create Casserole with FutureGov. When he’s not managing projects like a boss, Murtz is an photography master, taking snapshots around the city (including some brilliant night photography!) with his trusty tripod.
Favourite dish to cook: Kuka Paka
Jase is our designer, front end developer and zen master. He’s the man behind the look, feel and layout of the Casserole website. Not just a man of the web, Jase has designed everything from electronics to a pair of Speedo shoes, working as an in-house and consultant industrial designer for some pretty swanky brands! When asked why he likes working on Casserole, he said, “Food+Internet=Happy Jase.” Nuff said!
Favourite dish to cook: Meatballs and Tomato Sauce
As of this week, we are lucky enough to have Ed on board the Casserole team as our lead developer – coding and creating all the beautiful digital framework that will make Casserole’s website and online service work. In addition to being a coding master, Ed knows a thing or two about agile development (basically, creating the tech in short spurts so that we can tweak and change it as we go along to create exactly what our users want). If all that wasn’t enough, Ed is also a bit of a food master, having run his own terrine catering company in a past life!
Favourite dish to cook: Beans and Rice
Kirsty helps to support the management and development of Casserole, getting into the nitty gritty things like financial sustainability and business planning, and well as working to figure out how we can access resources to make sure Casserole gets as many people cooking and eating through its service as possible. Before joining us, she worked as the Assistant Director of Customer Service in a London borough, and believes whole-heartedly in the simplicity and community values that are behind Casserole, and how we can use this to connect people through food. An avid food and cooking fan herself, Kirsty makes a mean rocky road fudge and is one of our resident bakers for the Casserole market stalls.
Favourite dish to cook: Anything in a pot and some mean chocolate brownies
And finally, there’s me, Rachel, Casserole community and engagement manager and general food obsessive. Alongside Casserole, I community manage another FutureGov project, Simpl, but before all this, I studied all things art, gave museum tours, and wrote a dissertation on Come Dine With Me (really!). Besides the obvious food connection, I love that Casserole let’s me get stuck into communities and uses cooking to help grow and strengthen the bonds between people. I’m also the other baker on the team, so if you stop by one of our market stalls, be sure to try my banana bread!
Favourite dish to cook: Thanksgiving dinner
So there you have it! We’re the guys behind the tech changes, event flyers, e-mails and newsletters, working to make Casserole into the best possible service it can be. If you ever have any questions or comments, or want to get in touch with any of us directly, don’t hesitate to give us a shout!
